STUDIO VLOG 9 - CREATIVE CONUNDRUMS
Share
Have you ever had too many ideas and not known where to start? This was my problem in this weeks studio vlog!
In this episode I'm deciding what to design next, and working on new stickers and bookmarks!
Top tips for dealing with a creative conundrum
Get a change of scene
I would usually go for a walk or go for a coffee with my notebook and clear my head. But it's winter and lockdown - so getting out isn't really an option.
Getting a change of scene, even just moving to another part of the room still works really well. Designing and thinking about new ideas in a different space can be so useful.
Get rid of distractions
Phone on silent, iPads away and get away from your computer.
Get back to pen and paper
I design a lot on my iPad using Procreate, but things always start life in analogue. My notebook artwork is paint on a canvas and my hand lettering and doodles are often in a notebook.
I'm pretty sure there must be some science to this as it feels a lot different working on paper than digitally.
Don't put pressure on yourself to create something to sell if you aren't feeling it
Our emotions and our creativity go hand in hand.
You can't force yourself to create your next bestseller, or force your creativity to make you money. All you'll end up feeling is annoyed and frustrated. No great art comes from this space.
The best things I have created have come from a place of peace and joy. So have fun! Because that is the point of creativity anyway right?
When you have fun, and enjoy the process you're bound to come up with something good, even if it's not what you expected.
Hope you find these tips useful! Comment on my video if you try any of these out or if you have any advice to share too!
